Legendary comic Jay Leno has been cracking jokes with President Barack Obama as the punch line for years, so it was not surprising to find Leno as a guest star on Tim Allen’s sitcom Last Man Standing on Friday doing what he’s good at, making fun of Obama. The latest dig at Obama came on an episode titled “Mike and the Mechanics.” The two, in character on the show, were using a bit of self-deprecating humor poking fun at themselves. Leno was playing the character of Joe, a mechanic friend of Mike’s.
Mike: Hey, wait, wait. You actually wanted to be a comedian? Then what’s the job you get after that? Like, a talk show host?
Joe: Sure. Why not? You get to talk to beautiful women, you sit behind a desk, and you work, what, an hour a day?
Mike: You’re right. That’s some kind of job. You’d have to be an idiot to walk away from that kind of job.
Joe: Still better than being stuck on some stupid sitcom.
Later in the show Allen, in a post-script to the show, turned the audience’s attention to Obama’s qualifications for becoming president of the most powerful country in the United States.
Mike: So, if you’re a young person who’s not exactly sure where life is taking you, that’s OK. You know, we can’t all be Barack Obama and have our first job be president.”
