Why We Don’t Need Laws To Stop Bullying, “Fat Shaming” & “Slut Shaming”

Slut shaming, fat shaming, and general bullying have been topics in the news lately. What should be done about bullying? Do we need a law to stop it? I discuss my views on bullying and shaming in this video.

Sister, you make too much sense. Common sense and thought processes seem to be your strong point. Why aren’t you in the Senate?

I totally agree with this young person, hope there are more kids like her!!

Common sense and thought processes are very low on the bucket list for our leaders.

When I was a kid, unfettered bullying was a fact of life in every schoolyard, every neighborhood, and even in quite a few families. That was a long time ago. What has changed? Other than electronic communication in the hands of kids from age six, on up, and the advent of “social media”, absolutely nothing’s different today. My father told me the only way to deal with bullies was to stand up to them and he taught me how box and hit back. If it was a group of boys, then take on the biggest one, even if you are going to get your butt kicked! If a kid didn’t do this, the bullying would only get worse. My mother’s approach to the problem was teaching me to chant the mantra: “sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me”. Since I was a boy, my father’s method proved to be the most effective.

Same thing I have been saying over and over. Bullying is as old as books. Parent and stop acting like you can’t make changes in your life. Gov’t has been called in for what “We the People” should have changed.

Laws are social brute force: if you support democratic ideals and can’t comfortably envision holding a gun to people’s heads to get your way, then a law is an inappropriate way to influence the behavior of others.
