At one time in history (about 100+yrs ago) you had to be a white male landowner to vote! I think the white male part is to far out there, but the landowner part has some merit, after all even obummer talks about having “skin ” in the game, I would go so far as to include members of the U.S.Armed Forces also even if they were not landowners. After all who pays the most in taxes, at least localy that the folks paying property taxes? or the brave folks that answer the call of duty?if anyone were to have the right to vote would be the folks that have fought, bled, and have spent long amounts of time away from loved ones and home? yes at one time a black man could not vote, or a women could not vote, and it seems that all the social and welfare programs only started when the folks without “skin” in the game started to vote. I am not “getting down” on anyone here, I am just stating facts, when I ever read these facts of history, it seems like the one of the few things our Founding Fathers did wrong was not let everyone vote right from the start, and let the Country grow as such, it might have benifited from the moral compass that at the time was a lot truer than now!

  I’ve concluded that the only means of destroying the power of the Despotic Party is to allow people to vote only if they’re receiving nothing from the government (military personnel excepted), that way it would become impossible to bribe voters with their own tax dollars, and holding public office and government jobs would be seen as more of a civic sacrifice (or at least tradeoff). I would fall under that category as well, but on the other hand it might serve as an incentive for private means of assistance to spring up so people can get the help they need without sacrificing their voting rights (most likely with true effectiveness without fostering social dysfunction, unlike our federal programs).
  
  Actually, I think the real blunder of the Founding Fathers (slavery was an issue they geniunely wrestled with, and came to compromises designed to extinguish the problem over the long run–which would have worked if successive generations hadn’t fumbled it and brought on the cauldron of Civil War and near destruction of the American experiment) was viewing the Indians, the French, the British, Canadians, the Spanish (eventually Mexicans as well), and Russians (eventually the native Polynesians of Hawaii as well) out on the western frontier as being just obstacles to Manifest Destiny to be brushed aside (at most, there were a few weak thoughts by people like Jefferson of possibly opening up the way to allowing existing inhabitants of the continent to joining American society). The best course would have been to have dealt honestly and faithfully with these natives as sovereign tribes, while offering individuals the option of accepting the authority of the Declaration and Constitution and gaining full citizenship. Unfortunately, by granting citizenship on the basis of mere birth in the aftermath of the Civil War, I think the Radical Republicans repeated the blunder of the New England Puritans of the 1600s, who basically ended up losing their founding principles by grandfathering church membership to succeeding generations. By not tying citizenship to acceptance of foundational American principles, we eventually opened the way to American Progressives to filling our pulpits, teachers’ desks, newsdesks, professors’ lecturns, entertainment stages, corporate boardrooms, and government offices with aliens (that’s why the ruling class is labeling invaders–and they are every much invaders as the British troops that landed at Washington, Baltimore and New Oreleans; and the Japanese that attacked Hawaii and Alaska–as “immigrants”, because they wish this nation to be filled up with people who are every bit as alien to our Founders and the American people as themselves).

In my tea party we have an engineer, several school teachers (who don’t belong to unions), a couple of university professors, a fireman, and many businessmen and women. housewives, and ministers. They seem pretty typical of other tea party people I have met. They just do their jobs, pay their bills, and enjoy family and friends. As Carl said, they have high moral values, follow the law, they don’t lie cheat and steal. They were taught manners and civility by their parents, and they want to bring our country back from the destruction these Democratic nut jobs have put it in. They protest within the law and clean up after themselves. They don’t carry signs with vulgar words, or disrespect others.
